for musicians of all ages with additional needs
I am passionate about enabling every student with additional needs to achieve their best through music; through exploring music as an expressive outlet, working towards a performance or graded exam or supporting their wider educational and social development through music lessons.
I have a patient and nurturing approach and tailor each session to the student's individual requirements. Throughout the learning journey, time in invested in building self-esteem and confidence. Musical creativity and exploration are encouraged at all levels. I am professionally trained in improvisation techniques and use these widely in my tuition. Students are encouraged to explore a variety of instruments in addition to their main instrument if they wish. Repertoire is drawn from the student's own listening preferences and compositions, supported by technique to enable them to reach their potential.
I have experience of working with musicians with a wide range of additional requirements including special educational needs, emotional and behavioural challenges, disabilities and mental health challenges. I am happy to adapt playing and teaching methods entirely to suit and have been highly successful in working with non-verbal students across a range of age groups.
I work in specialist settings across Leicestershire on behalf of Leicester-Shire Schools Music Service and independently throughout the Midlands. I run a private teaching practice for from my studio in South Derbyshire. Find out more about my studio here.
